Given the demand for housing, the construction industry is one of the largest industries in any country. Furthermore, the construction industry is one of the most important sectors of a country's economy and, due to its connection with other industries, plays an undeniable role in the economy. Although this industry attracts attention economically, its productivity growth is significantly lower compared to other industries such as manufacturing. In the construction industry, numerous challenges exist, such as material wastage, delays in project delivery, and cost overruns beyond the allocated budget, compared to other industries. Therefore, these challenges must be minimized by adopting modern management methods. Lean management, also known as the Toyota Production System, has proven its success in the manufacturing sector and was later applied by experts in the construction industry. However, this management approach is still not adequately utilized in Iran. This study examines the methods of implementing lean management and then identifies the obstacles to its adoption in Iran’s construction industry through a review of articles and interviews with experts. These obstacles are then ranked through the distribution of a questionnaire. The lack of familiarity and comprehensive understanding of lean management, and the lack of awareness about the benefits and profits derived from its application, were identified as the main obstacles. By promoting the use of lean management system, and documenting the findings from its implementation, the impact of these obstacles can be reduced.
