In this paper, to reduce the scour depth downstream of the Type 1 relaxation basin, it is proposed and investigated to change the bottom geometry from flat to stepped at the end of the relaxation basin, and the effect of this step has been investigated at different slopes of 0, 9, 14, and 27 degrees. In this study, numerical modeling has been used to investigate the effect of the aforementioned slopes in different conditions on the scour rate downstream of the relaxation basins. The spillway model of the Chalus diversion dam located in Mazandaran province was selected for the aforementioned study, and its effect has been investigated by making the bottom of this basin stepped. The simulation was performed using Flow-3D software under different angles and dimensions of the steps. The results obtained from the analyses show that with increasing the slope, the maximum scour depth downstream of the relaxation basin with a stepped bottom has decreased by 38.46 percent compared to the case without steps. Also, the length of the scour pit downstream of the relaxation pond with a stepped bottom has been reduced by 28.57% compared to the case without a stepped bottom. Stairs in the pond bottom reduce the kinetic energy remaining downstream by 14.63%. Numerical simulation of physical phenomena allows for a more detailed study of the flow field, velocity vectors, and pressure contours of the scour pit, which is also discussed in detail in this article.
