English

In this research, the effect of tall building plan shapes on their performance against the wind is discussed. For this purpose, three types tall buildings having round, regular hexagon, and triangle plans were placed against the wind and the comfort of the accupants was investigated. All buildings have the same height and bulk density and were analyzed for three average wind speeds of 36, 54 and 72 m/s. Alongwind response for the highest wind speed and acrosswind response is presented for all wind speeds. The reason for choosing the plan and dimensions of the buildings is the lack of a specific closed form for the acrosswind response of tall buildings. Following is an overview of the human response to vibration, which is referred to as performance-based design in wind engineering. The results show that the response of the buildings is sensitive to plan shape of buildings and the average wind speed and has an effect on the comfort of accupants. The response of the regular hexagonal building is 45% in the transverse direction and 43% in the longitudinal direction of the longitudinal response of the building with a triangular plan. The acrosswind response of the building with a round plan is 15% and its alongwind response is 50% of the alongwind response of the building with a triangular plan. The acrosswind response of round plan shape building is 34% of the acrosswind response of hexagonal plan shape building. The alongwind response of round plan shape is 116% of its alonwind response. In general, in the longitudinal direction, the regular hexagonal plan shape building performs better than the other two buildings. In the transverse direction, all three buildings perform well at low speeds, but at high speeds, the triangle plan building does not perform well compared to the other two buildings.
