Abstract
The cylindrical chamber is filled with recycled iron and rubber granular materials. The purpose of making this type of damper is first to dissipate the energy absorbed during an earthquake, and secondly to investigate the different combinations of iron and rubber granules inside the chamber of the device and its effect on energy absorption. The operation of these dampers is through the friction created between the piston and the granules compressed inside the cylinder. The composition of the granules placed in the damper cylinder has a high impact on the final capacity of these dampers. In this study, recycled materials are used to make granular dampers, which is one of the most important innovations of the research. The results of the studies show that the recycled rubber granules between the iron granules act like a viscous medium, which increases the damping in the damper. If a combination of steel and recycled rubber granules is used, the damper resists more pressure and can be used in one-way dampers. The optimal amount of recycled rubber granules is 15 grams in the chamber made against 575 grams of iron granules. The energy absorption study also shows that the above sample has the highest energy absorption. Also, the use of steel and rubber granules allows the manufacture of dampers that can be readjusted in terms of resistance and unidirectional or bidirectional for various efficiencies. It is worth noting that in cylindrical dampers filled with a combination of iron and rubber granules, the failure of the samples occurs all at once after reaching the final load. Finally, given the relatively good agreement between the results of the numerical analysis and the results of the laboratory study, this numerical model can be considered for future studies.
