Abstract

The design of concrete frames resisting lateral loads is usually controlled due to their low flexibility, strength, and story displacement limitations. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of an 8-story concrete frame designed according to Iranian regulations with three different levels of story displacement limit: 0.5%, 0.75%, and 1.0%. The seismic evaluation in this research has been done using pushover analysis and dynamic time-history analysis of earthquake. 10 records with different PGA levels are used in the analysis. Average values plus one standard deviation of story displacement ratio, maximum story displacement ratio are used as a basis for seismic performance evaluation. For this purpose, we examined the results of 3 different design types based on fixed dimensions of columns and beams and variable sizes of reinforcements, as well as 3 different types of designs with variable dimensions of columns and beams and constant sizes of reinforcements in the results. Then we reinforced one of the designs with FRP fibers. The obtained results showed that by fixing the size of the bars and increasing the dimensions of the frame, the strength and relative displacement of the floors will be reduced, these changes are 33% higher in the maximum amount in the D1 design compared to the D2 design.
